How many students will be accepted to the program?
While we hope to grow this opportunity in the future, SPSP will select up to ten students to participate in the program for summer 2018.
Are international students eligible for the program?
Yes. SPSP is an international organization and welcomes applicants who reside outside of the United States. Please note that SPSP will only cover up to $500 for travel expenses. It is the sole responsibility of the student to sort visa requirements needed to participate in the program.
I attend an undergraduate institution with an active lab, but it is not in my area of interest. Am I still eligible for the program?
As long as your university does not have an active research lab in your desired area of research you are eligible for the program.
When does the program take place?
The dates of the program are flexible and only need to take place for eight consecutive weeks in the summer. The exact dates of arrival and departure are decided between you and your mentor should you be accepted to the program.
How do I apply?
Applications are submitted via our online portal, which will remain open from October 1 to November 10.
All materials are due on November 10. If your application is submitted by November 10 but your recommendation letter has not been received your application will not be reviewed. Please note that recommenders do not receive the invitation to upload their letter until your application has been submitted so it is best to submit applications early.
How are students and mentors matched?
Prior to the opening of the submission portal, SPSP recruits mentors that are willing to take on undergraduate student in their research lab over the summer. Applying students will then indicate up to five mentors they are interested in working with on their application. SPSP will reach out to the accepted students’ top choice mentors to work out placement details.
How do I find housing?
SPSP will not be providing housing for the students accepted to the program, but students will receive a $3,000 stipend to cover living expenses. We suggest reaching out to your mentor to assist with finding summer housing near the lab.
There is a mistake on my application. How can I fix it?
If you find an error on your application you wish to correct, email SPUR@spsp.org. Please note that changes will only be accepted up to the day the application is due. All correction requests received after November 10 will not be completed.
